Gov. Diane Denish a sizable lead in a potential 2010 gubernatorial primary against Albuquerque Mayor Martin Ch\u00e1vez.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The poll, most likely leaked by the Denish campaign and first reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemonahan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Monahan<\/a>, has Denish with 56 percent of the vote to Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s 38 percent if the two were the only candidates in a Democratic primary. The survey of 606 <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> likely voters was conducted Jan. 15-18 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, and has a margin of error of four percentage points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You can read the company\u2019s memo to Denish\u2019s campaign by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.com\/Denishearlypoll.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Denish has already raised $1 million for a 2010 gubernatorial campaign and said she plans to run. She\u2019s also ready to step earlier in if Gov. He\u2019s holding a fundraiser this week that costs $2,000 to attend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ch\u00e1vez says he doesn\u2019t know whether he\u2019ll run, but has to start raising money now to keep up with Denish. The leak of Denish\u2019s poll is probably designed to discourage Ch\u00e1vez from entering the race and to discourage potential donors to Ch\u00e1vez in advance of this week\u2019s fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With Denish as his running mate, Ch\u00e1vez unsuccessfully challenged Gov. Gary Johnson in 1998. The two have been at odds ever since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though Denish is currently the Democratic frontrunner for governor, lots could change, as the election is more than three years away. Other potential Democratic candidates for governor in 2010 include former Attorney General Patricia Madrid and State Rep.
