Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Turner<\/a> doesn\u2019t have plans to release a campaign finance report to the public until the next one is required on April 12 \u2013 but he\u2019s also not entirely closing the door on doing it sooner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would imagine we\u2019ll report in April when it\u2019s appropriate,\u201d Turner told NMPolitics.net\u2019s Peter St. Cyr earlier today.<\/p>\n

Turner was speaking at a tax protest outside the Roundhouse that he held with former Gov. Gary Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe we\u2019ll do it earlier,\u201d Turner said of releasing a finance report. \u201cYou know, we haven\u2019t had a plan. Today our focus is on fighting taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, three other gubernatorial candidates \u2014 Democrat\u00a0Diane Denish<\/a> and Republicans\u00a0Susana Martinez<\/a> and\u00a0Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a> \u2014 have already gone beyond what the law requires in terms of campaign finance transparency, and Republican candidate\u00a0Pete Domenici Jr.<\/a> says he plans to join them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have any resistance to that,\u201d Turner said of releasing reports more often than the law requires. \u201cIt\u2019s just that we haven\u2019t been focusing on following every single campaign on, you know, who\u2019s proving that they\u2019re more transparent than the other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have started off this campaign acknowledging from the beginning that I\u2019m self-funding a significant portion of it, and I will continue to self-fund significant portions of it even while I\u2019m raising money,\u201d Turner said. \u201cI\u2019m raising money from oil and gas industry. I\u2019m raising money from businesses that care about the future of this state. And when we report, we\u2019re going to report and everyone will know about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other candidates<\/h3>\n

Denish has been\u00a0voluntarily releasing reports quarterly<\/a> \u2014 even in off-election years when it\u2019s not required \u2014 for some time, and she did it again\u00a0last week<\/a>. Martinez\u00a0matched Denish<\/a> last week in voluntarily releasing a report of contributions and expenditures for the fourth quarter of 2009.<\/p>\n

Arnold-Jones has gone well beyond that in terms of disclosure of campaign contributions.\u00a0She recently posted on\u00a0her campaign Web site<\/a> information about every contribution she\u2019s received to date, and she is keeping the list of contributions current.<\/p>\n

But unlike Denish and Martinez, Arnold-Jones has not been releasing information about campaign expenditures more often than state law requires.<\/p>\n

Domenici, who entered the race over the weekend, plans to voluntarily release information about contributions at least monthly<\/a>, his spokesman says.<\/p>\n

Only Turner and Republican Allen Weh<\/a> haven\u2019t agreed to go beyond what the law requires. Weh hasn\u2019t answered the question about whether he\u2019ll voluntarily release a campaign finance report this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
