Bill Richardson on Monday will make his first trip to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> since announcing that he\u2019s running for president.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> will be in town to announce his support for a proposed 1\/4 percent gross receipts tax increase to help fund <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceportamerica.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spaceport America<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is scheduled to speak in front of a group of students at <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&amp;q=vista+middle+school,+las+cruces&#038;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;amp;z=12&#038;ll=32.391848,-106.77784&amp;spn=0.133355,0.2314&#038;om=1&amp;iwloc=A\" target=\"_blank\">Vista Middle School<\/a>, <st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">4465 Elks Drive<\/st1:address><\/st1:street> in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, at sometime between 2:30 and 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">An election on whether to increase the tax in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> is tentatively set for April 3, though the county commission must formalize that in a vote that will be held early next month. If the tax is approved, 75 percent of revenue will go directly to spaceport infrastructure and operations, and 25 percent will come back to <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> to be invested in related projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Commissioner Bill McCamley has proposed using that money to create space academies at area high schools that would help prepare students to go on to New Mexico State University\u2019s aerospace engineering program or a related field and then work in the space industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In addition to speaking at a news conference, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> may meet with students who have attended NASA\u2019s Space Camp, said school district spokeswoman Jo Galvan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s not known whether <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> will take questions.
