House Majority Leader Ken Martinez of Grants was among those who endorsed the task force recommendations after sitting on the committee for months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThese recommendations are now before the Legislature,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in today\u2019s state of the state address. \u201cI know that you will fully want to review these proposals. This time, though, there are no excuses. The time for ethics reform is now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaker of the House Ben Lujan didn\u2019t sound so certain. Though he endorsed some of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s proposals in remarks made shortly after he was re-elected speaker, Lujan sounded lukewarm about ethics reform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe will consider the recommendations and act upon them as we deem necessary,\u201d was all he said about the governor\u2019s proposals on ethics reform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lujan also said during his speech that maintaining public trust is important. He has said in the past that he believes <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> is a state with an ethical government that can be trusted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Proponents of ethics reform expect a tough battle in the next 60 days. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the opening day of the 2007 Legislature, comments by the governor and speaker of the House may reveal the fight to come over ethics reform.
