A federal grand jury has subpoenaed documents from the district attorney’s office in Do\u00f1a Ana County from 2010, when now-Gov. Susana Martinez was the DA, The Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The subpoena, dated Sept. 22, sought records related to Martinez, a Republican, and two employees who worked for her when she was district attorney — Amy Orlando and Kip Scarborough, the newspaper reported. Both employees also worked\u00a0for Martinez’s first gubernatorial campaign in 2010.<\/p>\n

The subpoena sought payroll, expense and law enforcement records, according to The New Mexican, which obtained the subpoena in response to a records request to current Third Judicial District Attorney Mark D’Antonio, a Democrat.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Martinez was quoted by the newspaper as saying the governor isn’t being investigated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Governor has not received a target letter, and she is not the target of an investigation,\u201d the spokesman, Chris Sanchez, was quoted as saying.\u00a0\u201cShe has not testified before a grand jury, and has not hired a lawyer.”<\/p>\n

As Martinez’s staff has done in the past, Sanchez blamed the investigation on “old tired allegations made by opponents with an ax to grind.”<\/p>\n

Whatever the case, the feds appear to have cast a wide net. In recent months they’ve also subpoenaed\u00a0records related to state audits<\/a> of people who have been at odds with Martinez’s administration or political operation. And the FBI has been asking questions<\/a> about\u00a0Martinez\u2019s fundraising and political consultant Jay McCleskey.<\/p>\n

Martinez has said she’s “confident”<\/a> McCleskey did nothing wrong and called\u00a0allegations of wrongdoing “political cheap shots.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
