Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltgovernor.state.nm.us\/\">Diane Denish<\/a> gave reporters a preview today of a new online database Web site that will allow the public to view any state contract valued at $20,000 or more.<\/p>\n<p>The new Web site &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/contracts.gsd.state.nm.us\/\">http:\/\/contracts.gsd.state.nm.us<\/a> &#8212;  will officially go live on New Year&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now every citizen in our state will have access at their fingertips to see how the state is spending large sums of money through contracts,&#8221; Denish said. &#8220;This is an important start towards creating the transparent government New Mexicans deserve, but I will not stop until we have a full sunshine portal that puts the state\u2019s entire checkbook online for the public to see.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=w4xUbpwzV5Y[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>The Web site is the result of a <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/LCS\/_session.aspx?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=B&amp;LegNo=546&amp;year=09\">HB 546,<\/a> which was approved by the Legislature earlier this year in Santa Fe with broad bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.state.nm.us\/index2.php\">Bill Richardson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In July, when Denish announced her <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/after-gops-attack-denish-unveils-ethics.html\">ethics reform proposals<\/a>, she indicated that she wants the\u00a0 state\u2019s entire checkbook\u00a0put online for the public to access.
