Pete Domenici has recommended four attorneys to replace David Iglesias as the state\u2019s next <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> attorney, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/526784nm01-06-07.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">They are Jim Bibb of <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city>, who ran unsuccessfully against Gary King for attorney general last year; T. Glenn Ellington of <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:city>; Charles Peifer of <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city>; and Pat Rogers of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though a timeline has not been set, U.S. Attorney David Iglesias plans to step down in the next few months at the request of higher-ups in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, most likely because of the recent acquittal on most counts of former state Treasurer Robert Vigil and delays in the prosecution of another public corruption case currently under investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Domenici made the recommendations at the request of the Bush Administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is my pleasure to recommend four individuals that I believe would serve <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and the nation with distinction as United States Attorney for our state,\u201d Domenici said in a news release. \u201cI am familiar with each of them, and I believe that they have the necessary legal backgrounds and right temperament for the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It\u2019s up to President Bush to nominate a new <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> attorney, and the Senate will then consider whether to confirm that person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bibb is a former assistant <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> attorney. Ellington is a former secretary of the state Taxation and Revenue Department and state judge. Peifer is a former chief assistant attorney general for the state. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Rogers<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has done a lot of work for the state Republican Party and is heavily involved in the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
