{"id":1062,"date":"2007-01-05T11:46:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-05T17:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/01\/group-holds-gisd-school-board-candidate-forum\/"},"modified":"2007-01-05T11:46:00","modified_gmt":"2007-01-05T17:46:00","slug":"group-holds-gisd-school-board-candidate-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/01\/group-holds-gisd-school-board-candidate-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Group holds GISD school board candidate forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Candidates for seats on the Gadsden Independent School District Board of Education will share their views during a forum next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The event, sponsored by the South Valley Alliance and <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpace.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Progressive Alliance for Community Empowerment<\/a>, will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the volunteer fire station in Anthony, located at <st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">1055 West O\u2019Hara Road<\/st1:address><\/st1:street>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sometime after that, the groups will announce endorsements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Because of the 2005 recall of four of five <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Gadsden<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> board members, all seats are up for grabs on Feb. 6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In District 1, incumbent Manuela Huerta faces Luz Vargas-Troncoso, who was recalled in 2005 but wants her seat back. Rodolfo Franco will challenge incumbent Jennifer Viramontes for the District 2 seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Maria Saenz is running unopposed to retain her District 3 seat. She was the only board member not recalled in 2005.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Elva Flores is challenging incumbent Daniel Castillo for the District 4 seat.
