{"id":1046,"date":"2007-01-02T13:23:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-02T19:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/01\/gop-official-confirms-staff-changes\/"},"modified":"2007-01-02T13:23:00","modified_gmt":"2007-01-02T19:23:00","slug":"gop-official-confirms-staff-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/01\/gop-official-confirms-staff-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"GOP official confirms staff changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Staff changes at the Republican Party of New Mexico have been confirmed by outgoing Communications Director Jonah Cohen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cohen said former Executive Director Marta Kramer resigned \u201cto spend more time with her family in <st1:state st=\"on\">California<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u201d and will be replaced by Chris Atencio, the state party\u2019s political director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Storm Field, the party\u2019s former field director, is now working for House Republicans and will be replaced by Matt Stackpole, who was the Victory 2006 72-hour director, Cohen said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cohen said he is also leaving later this week to take a job as chair of a history department at a private high school in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Vegas<\/st1:city>, <st1:state st=\"on\">Nev.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAll of these changes were amicable and we\u2019ve all remained good friends with Chairman Allen Wen,\u201d Cohen said in an e-mail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 2:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Cohen said he doesn\u2019t know who will replace him, but the decision is up to Atencio and Weh. One name he has heard mentioned as a possibility is Scott Darnell, who ran Vickie Perea\u2019s campaign for secretary of state last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He also said the changes won\u2019t hurt the GOP legislative agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIf the staff changes were acrimonious in nature, then I\u2019d be concerned,\u201d Cohen said. \u201cBut we\u2019re being replaced by people whom we\u2019ve been working with over the last year. They\u2019re familiar with the office, they\u2019ve worked closely with Allen Weh, and they\u2019re bright. In many ways, Atencio has been the brains behind the party, setting goals and deciding the party message. Nobody knows how to do politics better than he does.
