Bill Richardson began his second term Monday, the big question was whether he\u2019ll serve for two or four more years.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You can read the nuts and bolts about <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s inauguration by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/news\/ci_4933986\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and the text of his remarks by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/press.php?id=335\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The reality is that everyone expects <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to announce sometime in the next two weeks that he is running for president. He\u2019ll likely work very hard to be governor of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> for only two more years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And, as noted by Steve Terrell of the Santa Fe New Mexican in an analysis piece published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freenewmexican.com\/news\/54583.html\" target=\"_blank\">today<\/a>, the phrase \u201cthe long haul\u201d \u2013 spoken seven times by Richardson during his 2003 inaugural address \u2013 was absent from Monday\u2019s remarks. Either there\u2019s not much left to do to turn around the state, or <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> doesn\u2019t plan to be around much longer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We all know there\u2019s much left to be done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> has said he\u2019ll make a decision on whether to run for president before the Legislature convenes on Jan. 16, and said he\u2019ll make the announcement in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Those closest to the governor expect him to run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Regardless of whether <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is successful in a White House bid, expect Lt. Gov. Diane Denish to do a lot of governing over the course of the next two years if <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> runs. The presidential race has already begun \u2013 the Democrats will likely hold their first debate in April in <st1:state st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:state> \u2013 and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> will be out of the state for much of 2007 and 2008. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Gov.
