Bill Richardson has decided to appoint Laura Conniff of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to a second, six-year term on the New Mexico State University Board of Regents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> could make an announcement as early as this afternoon, sources tell me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Conniff, currently the board\u2019s vice president, was first appointed by former Gov. Gary Johnson in 2000. Conniff, a registered Democrat, has been fairly independent, at times frustrating <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> by not voting the way he wanted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Conniff is a co-owner of Mathers Realty, Leveldale Farms and Conniff F Cross Farm in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. She also serves on the First New Mexico Bank of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> board and is a founding member of the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Earlier this month, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> appointed graduate student Ed Kellum, a registered independent, to serve as the only student member of the board. Student regents serve two-year terms; the other four members serve six-year terms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Conniff and Kellum will both have to be confirmed when the Legislature convenes in January. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Though he hasn\u2019t made an official announcement, Gov.
