{"id":10115,"date":"2009-12-10T08:19:54","date_gmt":"2009-12-10T15:19:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=10115"},"modified":"2009-12-10T08:28:12","modified_gmt":"2009-12-10T15:28:12","slug":"vigil-giron-to-be-laid-off-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/12\/vigil-giron-to-be-laid-off-in-january\/","title":{"rendered":"Vigil-Giron to be laid off in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5741\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 270px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5741 \" title=\"Vigil-Giron\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Vigil-Giron.jpg\" alt=\"Rebecca Vigil-Giron\" width=\"270\" height=\"239\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rebecca Vigil-Giron<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/08\/prosecutors-allege-the-theft-of-millions-of-dollars\/\">indicted<\/a> in August on\u00a0 50 counts related to public corruption, former Secretary of State <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rebecca_Vigil-Giron\" target=\"_blank\">Rebecca Vigil-Giron<\/a> was allowed to keep\u00a0her job with the state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dws.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Workforce Solutions<\/a>.\u00a0Now, she&#8217;s learned she will be laid of\u00a0 Jan. 8 along with dozens of other political appointees.<\/p>\n<p>Vigil-Giron, who has been working as a constitutent liason for the department&#8217;s labor and industrial division, is one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/12\/guv-announces-layoffs-of-59-political-appointees\/\">59 political appointees <\/a>being cut by Gov. Bill Richardson, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krqe.com\/\">KRQE-TV<\/a> reported. Reached by NMPolitics.net, Vigil-Giron declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs are part of an effort Richardson says is expected to save the state $8.3 million a year.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of Vigil-Giron&#8217;s indictment, then-Workforce Solutions Deputy Secretary Ken Ortiz stated in a news release that while \u201cthe allegations contained in\u00a0the indictments are serious, they concern actions that are unrelated to (Vigil-Giron\u2019s) work with the department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vigil-Giron and others indicted \u2014 lobbyists <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/Lobby\/940531.HTM\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Kupfer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/Lobby\/070154.HTM\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Kupfer<\/a> and contractor Armando Gutierrez \u2014 each face 50 counts including money laundering, fraud, soliciting or receiving kickbacks and tax evasion. They\u2019re accused of bilking taxpayers out of millions of dollars between 2004 and 2006 by falsifying invoices to the secretary of state\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Story\/Dozens-of-exempt-jobs-end-Jan--8\">Bruce Kohl,<\/a> head of the securities division at the Regulation and Licensing Department, said he was also notified that he was being laid off after 15 years in the department.\u00a0The editor of NMPolitics.net\u00a0has filed an inspection of public records request with the governor&#8217;s office seeking full information about which political appointees are being laid off next month, but the governor&#8217;s office has not yet released that information.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0a trial date for Vigil-Giron has not been set.<\/p>\n<p><em>St. Cyr is a contributing writer for this site and a reporter at 770KKOB.com.
