{"id":1000,"date":"2006-12-15T09:36:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-15T15:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/12\/colfax-county-commission-picks-thomas-garcia\/"},"modified":"2006-12-15T09:36:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-15T15:36:00","slug":"colfax-county-commission-picks-thomas-garcia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/12\/colfax-county-commission-picks-thomas-garcia\/","title":{"rendered":"Colfax County commission picks Thomas Garcia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Colfax County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to recommend Thomas Garcia as the next representative for House District 68.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019m still trying to find out if the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Taos<\/st1:PlaceName> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> commission has acted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Colfax<\/st1:PlaceName>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> Commissioner William B. Conley of Angel Fire confirmed Thursday\u2019s 3-0 vote to recommend Garcia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Colfax joins Guadalupe and San Miguel counties in recommending Thomas Garcia. The <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Mora<\/st1:PlaceName>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> commission recommended Paula Garcia. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Taos<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> is the only other county in the district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">All counties must recommend candidates to Gov. Bill Richardson before he can make an appointment. If <st1:city st=\"on\">Taos<\/st1:City> has done so, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> could make an announcement today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The position is open because of the resignation of state Auditor-elect Hector Balderas. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:City><\/st1:place> is expected to name his replacement by Monday so the new representative can vote for speaker of the House during the Democrats\u2019 caucus meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With the speaker race between Ben Lujan and Ken Martinez close to a tie, the new representative could cast the deciding vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">My sources tell me <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> plans to appoint Thomas Garcia, a big supporter of Lujan. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> insists he\u2019s staying out of the speaker race and is working quickly to appoint because constituents are anxious to make capital outlay requests to their new representative. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Colfax County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to recommend Thomas Garcia as the next representative for House District 68.
