I believe journalists should also be transparent about relationships that may affect or create the appearance of affecting their work.\u00a0Here&#8217;s a disclosure I need to make:<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Members\/Legislator?SponCode=HMCCA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill McCamley<\/a> has been a good friend since before I was a professional journalist. I can&#8217;t always avoid writing about him, and I&#8217;ll handle each situation on a case-by-case basis. I don&#8217;t believe journalists can be entirely objective \u2013 we&#8217;re human \u2013 and objectivity shouldn\u2019t be the goal. Instead, I believe we should strive to treat everyone fairly.<\/p>\n<p>NMPolitics.net aims to facilitate inclusive and bridge-building conversations. We won&#8217;t exclude McCamley from those conversations, but we&#8217;ll approach\u00a0his involvement thoughtfully and openly.
