Southern New Mexico’s fragile behavioral health system has taken many hits in recent years. Law enforcement is increasingly tasked with handling crises they can’t fix. Policymakers have taken some steps to help, but progress has been slow. So NMPolitics.net, the Las Cruces Sun-News and KRWG News set out to investigate southern New Mexico’s struggling behavioral health system, tell the stories of people the system impacts, and explore solutions. This series, which was supported in part by the Fund for Investigative Journalism is the result. We recommend you start by reading this note from the editor before you dig into the stories.
