During last week’s gubernatorial debate, neither candidate presented a clear, coherent, cogent statement of position on a single topic for two minutes without drifting, repeatedly, to one or more of their talking points, whether germane or not to the question, or resorting, repeatedly, to one or more of their thrust-and-parry jabs. Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez supports the creation of an independent redistricting commission to take the politics out of redrawing the state’s political boundaries, while Democrat Diane Denish is open to considering the creation of an independent committee that would advise lawmakers and the governor. It’ll be interesting to see if Susana Martinez keeps doubling down on a whopper, or if she comes clean and says she’s simply changed her mind about vouchers (which might antagonize her fellow Republicans).
