Three city council seats are up for grabs today in an important election about the future of Las Cruces.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you know your precinct, you can find your polling place by clicking here. If you have questions about your polling place or anything else, call the city clerk at (575) 541-2115.

In the District 3 race, Councilor Dolores C. Archuleta is facing challenger Olga Pedroza. In District 5, Councilor Gil Jones is facing Gill M. Sorg. And in District 6, Councilor Sharon K. Thomas is facing James W. Harbison.

Municipal Judge James T. Locatelli will also appear on the ballot, but he’s running unopposed.

Growth continues to be the big topic of discussion in Las Cruces. Many consider Pedroza, Sorg and Thomas to be the “progressive” slate of candidates. Electing all three would increase the progressive majority that first took control of the council in 2007 on a platform of increased transparency and citizen involvement and a shift to more sustainable growth policies.
