Additional poll workers report few problems

I’ve visited four additional precincts in the central and northwest portions of Las Cruces, and workers there also report few problems.

At Valley View Elementary School in inner-city Las Cruces, 79 of 990 registered voters had cast votes by 12:30 p.m. in Precinct 48.

At Picacho Middle School on the city’s northwest side, there are two precincts. In Precinct 88, 27 of 316 had voted by 1 p.m. In Precinct 87, 214 of 1,126 had cast votes.

At Fairacres Elementary School on Picacho Avenue, 219 of 1,164 registered voters had cast votes by 1:10 p.m.

As was the case with other polling places I visited today, poll workers at these sites reported that very few provisional ballots have been cast. This is a great sign that we will likely be able to know the results of close races later tonight.

We’ve had to await results from close races in recent elections because of the high numbers of provisional ballots used.

I’m reporting now from the Doña Ana County Government Center, where I’ll be throughout the night while ballots are counted.

There have been a few glitches in Albuquerque today. You can read about them from the Albuquerque Tribune by clicking here. There have been some problems with the switch to electronic machines in other states. You can read about that from the Associated Press by clicking here.
