YouTube’s Pearce/Udall forum is now online

YouTube’s version of a candidate forum between U.S. Senate hopefuls Steve Pearce and Tom Udall is online and ready for you to watch.

YouTube has been highlighting some of the hottest Senate races in the nation with online candidate forums. Each candidate was asked to submit video responses to five questions that were submitted from YouTube users.

You can watch the Udall/Pearce forum by clicking here. It was posted by YouTube this morning.

The most interesting tidbits I found came in listening to each candidate answer a question about his opponent’s best traits.

“Even though we disagree on policies, I think Steve cares about New Mexico,” Udall, the Democrat, says in response to the question. “Steve holds firm in his beliefs, which I respect. Steve Pearce is a successful businessman and really pursuing the American dream.”

Pearce, the Republican, gave a longer answer.

“The thing that people say most about my opponent is that he’s very likeable, and I would agree. I deal with Tom on a day-to-day basis in the Congress and we get along well together,” Pearce says. “We come from different political viewpoints, but I will compliment Tom on standing up for his values. Again, we vote very rarely in the same vein, but I can’t fault him for wavering on his beliefs.”

“…The things that are nice about my opponent is that he’s a genuine nice guy. I get along well with him. I consider him a friend, somebody that I would look to in times of difficulty, and I think he would look to me in times of difficulty,” Pearce says. “Secondly, he and I believe completely differently on government, but he’s passionate about the way he believes. He fights for his beliefs, and I can’t fault him for that. I just say that we have different votes and that’s what we campaign on. Thirdly, I think he’s dedicated to those people that support him, and that’s a compliment.”
