Final primary results from Doña Ana County

The tallying of election results in Doña Ana County was completed early Saturday morning, meaning all that’s required to make the results official is a stamp of approval from the county commission.

Several local races were decided by narrow margins.

The closest was the county treasurer Democratic primary, in which former Treasurer David Gutierrez defeated former county Auditor Jill Johnson by 87 votes. Gutierrez had 4,476 votes, or 50.5 percent, to Johnson’s 4,389 votes, or 49.5 percent.

In the county clerk Democratic primary, Elections Supervisor Lynn Ellins defeated his closest challenger in a four-way race, incumbent Rita Torres, by 186 votes. Ellins had 3,140 votes, or 34 percent, to Torres’ 2,954 votes, or 32 percent.

In the county commission District 4 Republican primary, Doyle Pruitt defeated Anna Mae Evans by 71 votes. Pruitt had 1,012 votes, or 51.8 percent, to Evans’ 941 votes, or 48.2 percent. In the county commission District 2 Democratic primary, incumbent Dolores Saldaña-Caviness defeated her closest challenger in a three-way race by 35 votes. Saldaña-Caviness had 387 votes, or 42.3 percent, to Alicia Roman’s 352 votes, or 38.5 percent.
