Like Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez has spent the last two days campaigning for Hillary Clinton in El Paso.
Chávez endorsed Clinton before she won New Mexico’s Feb. 5 caucus. He said today that he has spent the last two days doing radio interviews and working phone banks in El Paso.
“I think it’s going well. Turnout looks good,” he said. “They had a lot of early voting down here.”
The mayor also attended a rally on Monday evening with former President Bill Clinton, and said it was “well-attended.”
“My sense is she’s going to carry Texas,” Chávez said of Hillary Clinton He noted that it’s difficult to be certain, however, because El Paso is not necessarily a measure of the rest of the state.
El Paso, Chávez said, is very pro-Clinton. The state is expected to be a close contest between her and Barack Obama.
Chávez added that he’ll probably travel next to Pennsylvania to campaign for Clinton. That primary is on April 22.
“I’m going wherever they need me,” he said.
