Pearce to make Senate run official Nov. 2 in Hobbs

U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M., will formally announce his candidacy for Senate on Nov. 2 in Hobbs, his hometown.

After that, Pearce said in a news release that it is his “intent to visit as many cities as possible in the first few days.”

Hobbs was a natural choice for me to start the campaign tour because it is where I learned my conservative New Mexico values of hard work, determination and integrity given to me by my parents,” Pearce said. “This campaign will be about ideas. This campaign will be about the future of our country. American needs strong leadership with basic conservative values to move America and New Mexico forward.”

Pearce said he looks forward “to personally meeting as many New Mexicans as possible.” The release said details about the Hobbs announcement and other stops would be announced in the near future.

Pearce will face U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson in next year’s GOP primary. The Democrats who have announced they are running are Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez and three lesser-known candidates, Don Wiviott, Jim Hannan and Leland Lehrman.
