Registration now open for ABQ meeting on national debt

Registration is now open for a national town hall meeting that will be held on June 26 in cities across America – including Albuquerque – to talk about the national deficit and debt.

The AmericaSpeaks Town Hall will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center beginning at 9:30 a.m. Albuquerque is one of six primary cities where large meetings will be held simultaneously.

From a news release about the event:

“Organized by AmericaSpeaks, this nonpartisan discussion is a way to find common ground about the choices necessary to address the nation’s growing deficit and national debt. Recommendations will be shared with national leaders, including members of Congress and the White House’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.”

“…Organizers are working to bring together thousands of Americans from across the country simultaneously to discuss the nation’s fiscal challenges. The Town Hall holds the promise of encouraging an even broader national dialogue to help build the urgency and political will necessary to tackle the problems of the deficit and debt.”

There’s no fee to attend. You can register at usabudgetdiscussion.org.

Lunch will be provided to those who attend, and organizers also hope to have child care, transportation assistance and translation services available, the news release states.

The national event is being funded by $4.2 million in grants from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
