Right after he entered the governor’s race in June 2009, Republican Doug Turner described himself in an interview with me as a moderate Republican.
Now Turner claims he never said that.
“I never described myself as that,” Turner was quoted as saying in a weekend profile published by The Santa Fe New Mexican. “I’m actually pretty conservative. Bloggers have described me as moderate.”
I stand by what I reported. I’m not surprised that Turner isn’t using the label any more – many of the candidates have stopped using certain phrases as they’ve honed their messages – but I am certain he called himself “moderate” in June 2009.
Anyway, on to more interesting things. The New Mexican and Albuquerque Journal published a number of articles related to the gubernatorial race and other primary contests this weekend.
