Richardson to travel back to North Korea

How many presidential candidates get to campaign for the job in North Korea?

According to the Associated Press, Gov. Bill Richardson will be doing just that next month. The news service quoted sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plans are still being firmed up. Richardson’s campaign has not made an announcement.

Richardson will travel to the Asian state to meet with government officials. The communist nation, whose leaders have a long relationship with Richardson, agreed recently to shut down its nuclear reactor in exchange for aid, but last week refused to return to talks until frozen funds were released.

So it will be a trip to help along the process, but it will be Richardson’s first meeting with the North Koreans since announcing he’s running for president and is certain to gain him a lot of attention. He has met with officials from the nation several times – in North Korea and New Mexico – in the past.
