Las Cruces councilor won’t seek re-election

Las Cruces City Councilor Steven Trowbridge has announced that he won’t seek re-election in November.

The District 4 councilor was quoted by the Las Cruces Sun-News as saying only that the “time had come.”

“My health is fine. My family is fine,” the newspaper quoted him as saying. “Also, there’s nothing at City Hall driving me to leave. That’s all it is. There is nothing to read into this decision. I’ve thought about this decision for awhile.”

Trowbridge has been a councilor since defeating Karen Stevens in November 1999. It has been his first stint in public office.

Mayor Bill Mattiace praised Trowbridge.

“He has been an asset to his district and the city as a whole,” Mattiace was quoted by the newspaper as saying. “Councilor Trowbridge always had the best interests of his district and the city, and his advice and opinions have given us a perspective that has been worth consideration.”
