The New Mexico Senate celebrated its fourth consecutive victory, 36-29, over the House of Representatives on Wednesday in the legislators’ annual Hoops 4 Hope basketball game.
The charity game, held at Santa Fe High School’s Toby Roybal Gymnasium, raised $30,486 in donations to support cancer research and care at The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. According to the center, the previous six games raised about $100,000.
The House team, the Aggies, coached by New Mexico State University women’s volleyball coach Mike Jordan, lost two of its better players this year in Republicans Terry McMillan, who was defeated in his bid for re-election, and Conrad James, who didn’t run for re-election.
Democratic Sens. Bill O’Neill, Bill Soules and Howie Morales were the mainstays for the Senate team, the Lobos, coached by UNM football coach Bob Davie.
