The polls are now open! I wanted to share our plans for this historic Election Day with you. We’ll obviously be covering the presidential race in New Mexico. The last three polls had Democrat Hillary Clinton leading Republican Donald Trump by 8 points, 5 points, 3 points, and 2 points here, so it could be an interesting night!
But there’s so much more going on.
For starters, we’ll be keeping an eye on voter turnout and any issues that develop at polling places. Look for mid-day updates about that.
After the polls close, we’ll be watching the battle for control of the N.M. House of Representatives. Many of the contested districts that will decide whether Democrats or Republicans have the majority next year are located in Doña Ana County. As one activist told us recently, “the whole state could flip on Doña Ana County.”
Several state Senate seats are also in play. We’ll be watching them.
An Albuquerque Journal poll made clear this weekend that a seat on the N.M. Supreme Court is up for grabs. We’ll have our eyes on that race as election results come in.
Who knows what else will happen? Every election brings surprises, and we’re ready to tell you about them.
I also wanted to share our plans to ensure we can bring you the news. The recent cyber attacks that took down many websites in the United States have some experts concerned about a possible attack on Election Day. We assume our website will be working fine, but in case an attack or any other technical glitches cause problems, we’re prepared to post news directly to Facebook, Twitter, or send it to you via email (if you’re not already signed up to get our emails, now is a good time to do that).
So visit NMPolitics.net for the latest news throughout the day, and keep an eye on your email and our social media pages as well.
Good luck to you and your preferred candidates!
