Voter turnout has been sky high this week in the state’s two largest counties, Bernalillo and Doña Ana — but it’s especially impressive in the southern border county.

As of Thursday, 3,265 people had cast ballots in Doña Ana County, Chief Deputy Clerk Scott Krahling posted on Facebook. He said that’s the most votes in any county in the state since early voting began Tuesday. It even tops Bernalillo County, which has more than three times as many residents.
Still, Bernalillo County’s numbers were also impressive. The county clerk there, Maggie Toulouse Oliver, said 1,996 people had voted as of Thursday. That’s more than twice the number of voters in Bernalillo County at that point in the last presidential election in 2012, she said.
“I think interest in the presidential race has people highly motivated,” Oliver said.
