A day after a new poll showed him gaining on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in New Mexico, Republican nominee Donald Trump has decided to hold a campaign rally here.
Trump’s rally will be in Albuquerque on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Atlantic Aviation, 2505 Clark Carr Loop SE, near the Albuquerque International Sunport. Gates open at 4 p.m. People can RSVP to attend by clicking here.
In the newest publicly released poll of New Mexico, Clinton led Trump by 5 percentage points, 45-40, heading into the final stretch of the campaign. Support for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, New Mexico’s former governor, dropped in the new poll to 9 percent.
The statewide survey of 1,899 likely voters was conducted Monday by ZiaPoll. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.25 percent.
In an article about Trump’s Sunday rally, the Albuquerque Journal quoted an unnamed senior Trump aide as saying internal campaign polling shows the race to be a “dead heat” in New Mexico.
Clinton has yet to hold a public rally in New Mexico, but her running-mate’s wife, Anne Holton, campaigned in Northern New Mexico this week. Trump hasn’t held a rally in the state since May, but his running-mate, Mike Pence, was here last week.
Johnson campaigned in New Mexico earlier this month.
