Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders added a third stop to his New Mexico campaign trip late Wednesday, announcing he will hold a public rally in Vado — a rural community in Southern Doña Ana County — on Saturday.
Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday for the rally at Vado Elementary School, which is located at 330 Holguin Road. The event is free and open to the public, but the campaign “strongly encouraged” RSVPs — which you can do by clicking here — because admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.
A news release states that people shouldn’t bring bags and should limit what they bring to “small, personal items like keys and cell phones.” “Weapons, sharp objects, chairs, and signs or banners on sticks” aren’t allowed, the release states.
Sanders plans to discuss issues including “getting big money out of politics, his plan to make public colleges and universities tuition-free, combating climate change and ensuring universal health care,” a news release states.
Earlier this week, Sanders announced that he will hold public rallies in Santa Fe and Albuquerque on Friday. He’s the first candidate to announce that he will attend public rallies in New Mexico ahead of the state’s June 7 primary.
Sanders, who trails Hillary Clinton by a wide margin in the delegate race for the Democratic Party’s nomination, has been written off by many pundits and analysts, but he continues to battle on.
Former President Bill Clinton will visit Albuquerque and Española next week to campaign for his wife.
