Attorney General Gary King confirmed today that he plans to run for governor in 2014.
From the Albuquerque Journal:
“King, a two-term attorney general and son of three-term New Mexico Gov. Bruce King, said today he plans to run for governor in 2014. He announced plans for the election bid on the Albuquerque radio station KANW.”
As of publication of this article, KANW 89.1-FM doesn’t have its report about King on its website.
King, a Democrat, could face Republican Gov. Susana Martinez if she seeks re-election. But he’ll first have to wade through what could be a crowded Democratic primary. And following what many call a lackluster tenure as AG, there are many Democrats who don’t want King to be the party’s nominee.
Nonetheless, the son of a former governor carries clout and, as a statewide elected official, King has to be taken seriously.
