Rep. Eliseo Lee Alcon is touting the fact that he is the one candidate targeted by the Super PAC tied to Gov. Susana Martinez who won his Democratic primary on Tuesday.
I reported on Wednesday that Reform New Mexico Now, the Super PAC tied to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez that got involved in Democratic primaries, won seven of eight races in which it played.
The one lawmaker the PAC targeted without success was Rep. Eliseo Lee Alcon, D-Milan, who touted his victory over challenger Bill Moore today in a news release.
“I am so proud we ran such a strong campaign in the face of such dirty politics,” Alcon said. “We overcame negative ads, theft and vandalism, and I never said a disparaging word about my opponent or the governor.”
Alcon won with 55 percent of the vote to Moore’s 45 percent. He said, despite the challenge of combatting negative mailers from the PAC, “I kept a smile on my face and I trusted people would see past the distortions.”
