Sen. Tim Eichenberg, D-Albuquerque, has ended his re-election bid and given the Democratic Party the job of appointing someone to appear in his place on the November ballot.
The Albuquerque Journal has the story:
“Eichenberg said he will withdraw from the general election ballot, leaving it to the Bernalillo County Democratic Central Committee to replace him.
“He was the only Democrat on the ballot in Senate District 15 in Tuesday’s primary election. The Democratic nominee runs in November against Republican H. Diane Snyder, whom Eichenberg defeated in 2008 in her bid for a third term.”
Eichenberg was quoted by the Journal and other news outlets as saying he’s leaving the Senate for family reasons, including caring for his elderly mother and two older brothers.
As the Journal recently reported, the association between Eichenberg and the Bernalillo County assessor is under FBI scrutiny.
