After pleading guilty to drunken driving for the second time in recent months, former Las Cruces City Council candidate Ryan Dailey says he’s going to “focus my life on fixing this addiction” and may run for council again in 2015.
Dailey pleaded guilty on Monday in Las Cruces to drunken driving and failure to maintain his lane. He was fined $100 and sentenced to a year on probation.
“I understand and am aware of the impact this case had not just on me, but my family,” he told NMPolitics.net. “I will continue to serve my community and continue with my life knowing the seriousness of drinking and driving.”
“I have the dauntlessness to admit guilt, and will and have shown remorse for what I have done,” he said.
Dailey had faced charges of aggravated drunken driving, improper lane usage and lack of due care stemming from the September incident that resulted in his arrest in Las Cruces while he was a candidate for the District 4 seat on the city council. The city clerk later disqualified him from the race because he didn’t submit enough valid signatures to run.
With one other candidate in the race, Nathan Small went on to easily win re-election.
In November, Dailey pleaded guilty to another drunken driving charge stemming from an incident in Virginia in 2009.
