Former Public Regulation Commissioner Jerome Block Jr. was sentenced to 4.5 years on probation Wednesday for felony crimes that led to his resignation last year.

From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

“State District Judge Michael Vigil on Wednesday sentenced the former Public Regulation Commission member to probation, meaning that as long as he behaves, Block can avoid a potential 4 1/2-year prison sentence, despite pleading guilty to several felonies and flunking out of Santa Fe’s Drug Court program.

“His freedom is largely up to him, the judge told Block.

“‘I think I got your attention,’ Vigil said. ‘I hope I got your attention. Because if I don’t have your attention, you will have to finish that four years.’”
