Carl Trujillo, who nearly unseated House Speaker Ben Luján in the 2010 Democratic primary, will seek the seat again in 2012, The Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting.
From the newspaper:
“New Mexico House Speaker Ben Luján, D-Nambé, hasn’t decided whether he’ll seek a 19th term, but the man who came within a hair of beating him in the 2010 Democratic Party primary apparently will make another run.
“Carl Trujillo — who lost to Luján last year by fewer than 100 votes in northern Santa Fe County’s District 46 — will make his official announcement in January, campaign manager Faith McKenna said in an email Tuesday.
“‘Yes, Carl will be running again,’ McKenna told a reporter. She said Trujillo has been planning to make another run since shortly after the primary last year.”
Luján told the newspaper recently that he hasn’t decided whether to run for re-election next year. He said he is waiting to see what happens in court with redistricting.
“That’s for me to decide,” The New Mexican quoted Luján as saying about whether he’ll run again.
