The Republican Party of New Mexico has named Bryan Watkins, who most recently served as the RNC’s 72-hour director, to be its executive director.

“His previous campaign experience in California and on the national level will be a welcome addition to the team and will help us develop a strategy to win elections up and down the ballot this cycle,” state GOP Chairman Monty Newman said in a news release.

Watkins replaces Marge Teague, who has held the position since late last year but announced her retirement from the party earlier this year.

In serving as the RNC’s 72-hour director during the last election cycle, Watkins oversaw day-to-day field operations nationwide for the RNC’s victory program. He also managed Damon Dunn’s successful bid for the Republican nomination for California secretary of state last year.

In 2008, the California native ran the statewide victory program in Minnesota.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to come to New Mexico and serve the party,” Watkins said. “I am also very excited to help lay the foundation that will elect Republicans in New Mexico. There is much work that needs to be done this year, but I am confident that with Chairman Newman’s leadership we can accomplish great things.”
