A source close to U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M., has already told NMPolitics.net that the congressman will “take a serious look” at running for the Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Jeff Bingaman.
Now Pearce is on the record. He was quoted by Politico as saying that it’s too soon to consider a race but, “obviously, it’s a calculation.”
“He served well and honorably, and so let’s just take a day or two here and kind of relish the fact that we’ve had someone who would dedicate that kind of years of service to New Mexico,” Pearce was quoted by Politico as saying. “When we go home, we’ll sit down with staff and look at it. But we’re not in any rush.”
