Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Javier Gonzales announced today that he’s seeking another term in that position.
“I am fully committed to putting my blood, sweat and tears into the party I was raised in and have loved over the course of the next two years,” Gonzales said in a news release.
Gonzales had been thinking about stepping down, leaving no obvious frontrunner in the race to replace him. Sources said his decision to run again likely makes him the frontrunner in the race that also includes criminal defense attorney Sam Bregman and Letitia Montoya, who most recently worked on the losing campaign of former Secretary of State Mary Herrera.
Gonzales said he is “committed to keeping New Mexico Blue in 2012 by re-electing President Obama, Senator Bingaman, Congressman Heinrich, Lujan and keeping our majorities in the State House and Senate.” He said he’s also “proud of our historic fundraising year (in 2010), where the New Mexico Democratic Party helped put more than $2.2 million into Democratic campaigns in all 33 counties.”
He said he’s running to help elect Democrats and to “challenge Gov. Martinez’s administration on its assaults on New Mexican working families, educators and the environment.”
