Following three days of rolling blackouts last week, the CEO of El Paso Electric had to answer some tough questions from the El Paso Times.
The rolling blackouts affected Doña Ana County in addition to West Texas, and, according to The Santa Fe New Mexican, contributed to the natural gas crisis in Northern New Mexico.
Among the toughest questions in the interview published by the Times:
- “You asked the city, the county and schools to close facilities for three days to save power, so tax-funded employees were paid not to work. Will the El Paso Electric shareholders bear this cost?”
- “Will the company offer its customers rebates or discounts because of the outages?”
- “The company is considered one of the most profitable utilities in the country. Has it neglected to invest in enough power generation and if so, could greater investment have prevented this week’s crisis?”
