Chief district judge in Las Cruces retires

District Judge Jerald A. Valentine is retiring on Jan. 1, and Gov.-elect Susana Martinez will get to appoint his replacement.

The retirement of Valentine, the presiding judge at the Third Judicial District Court in Las Cruces, was announced today in a notice of vacancy issued by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Valentine is a Democrat.

Those wanting to apply for the vacancy can obtain an application here. Applications are due by Dec. 6 at 5 p.m.

A bipartisan commission will meet at the district courthouse in Las Cruces on Jan. 13 to evaluate applicants and forward recommendations to then-Gov. Martinez, who will appoint a new judge.
