Democrat Gary King is maintaining a large lead in his race to keep his job as attorney general, an Albuquerque Journal poll found.
King leads his Republican opponent Matt Chandler by 20 points, 52 percent to 32 percent, with 16 percent undecided in the poll that was released today.
King led in a Journal poll five weeks ago by 15 points.
The new survey, conducted Sept. 27-30 by Research & Polling Inc. for the Journal, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
To make this a race, Journal pollster Brian Sanderoff was quoted as saying, Chandler will have to “not only pick up undecideds, but actually convert some King support to Chandler support. … To do that, you’d have to run some hard-hitting attack ads or comparative ads.”
