Remember how I wrote earlier this week that there had been “remarkable consistency” among most polls in the governor’s race showing Democrat Diane Denish stuck in the lower 40s and Republican Susana Martinez in the upper 40s or better?
That’s no longer true.
A new internal poll conducted for the Denish campaign has her trailing Martinez by 3 points, 49 percent to 46 percent.
The survey of 602 likely voters, conducted Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, according to the poll memo.
“Denish has gained momentum and is now in striking distance of Martinez,” the memo states. “… Denish’s gains come amid rising concerns about Martinez. The percentage of voters viewing Martinez unfavorably has increased 6 points since mid-September and 11 points since mid-August.”
We’ll have to wait for another poll to see if there’s a definite trend here.
