For years, NMPolitics.net has interviewed and profiled statewide candidates who wanted to take the time to do it while they were in Las Cruces. And for some time, the site has been accepting guest columns from candidates.
I’m writing to remind you that both offers are open to candidates from any party, and those with no party affiliation.
Candidates for statewide offices, Congress and the Public Regulation Commission – if you are coming to Las Cruces and want to devote 45-60 minutes to an interview, I’ll profile you if we can work out a time to conduct an interview. You’ll have a chance to talk about your campaign platform and I’ll have a chance to ask you some questions.
All candidates – I’m open to guest columns from any of you. Columns must be factual and should in general be more policy-based than political-based (but can certainly delve into the political as well). I’m open to other ideas if you have them. Ask me.
As for length, I generally say if a column is shorter than 500 words it probably doesn’t have enough substance to be worth readers’ time, and if it’s more than 1,000 or 1,100 words, most people won’t read it. But I have personally broken that general guideline on both sides. Say what you have to say.
Columns need to come with a 1-2 sentence bio (it can be as simple as “Diane Denish is the Democratic candidate for governor.”) and a photo of you.
