Both candidates for governor will present “major policy initiatives” during the Domenici Public Policy Conference being held at New Mexico State University in September, the university announced today.
Democrat Diane Denish and Republican Susana Martinez will “separately present the major policy initiatives they would advance in office,” the university announced on Twitter today. Following their presentations, both will take questions from panels of students.
No additional details were immediately available.
The university has already announced that Karl Rove, the senior adviser and deputy chief of staff in former President George W. Bush’s administration, will be among the speakers at the conference being held Sept. 1 and 2. Other speakers include former White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart, ABC newsman Sam Donaldson, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn, and Thomas O. Hunter, a retired president and director of Sandia National Laboratories.
In addition to the presentations by the gubernatorial candidates, the conference will focus on financial reform, national security and analysis of this year’s midterm election.
This is the third year for the conference, which is named after the retired U.S. senator. NMSU’s Domenici Institute aims to bring together top experts to focus on significant national issues. Past speakers have included U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd and U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu.
