Money reports reveal no surprises

The congressional candidates’ second-quarter finance reports reveal no big surprises that change expectations in any of the races.

That means momentum still leans slightly – but only slightly – in Republican Steve Pearce’s favor in his bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Harry Teague in the 2nd Congressional District race. It means Democratic U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich is still favored to win re-election in the 1st District, but, as expected, Republican Jon Barela is becoming more of a threat. And it means Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján is sitting pretty on lots more cash than his GOP challenger Tom Mullins.

In the 2nd District race, Pearce outraised Teague – again.  From April 1 to June 30, Pearce raised $462,665 to Teague’s $317,000. Teague still has more cash on hand, with almost $150,000 more in the bank than Pearce, but Pearce has been gaining on Teague with each report and has nearly closed the gap. Teague had $1,170,463 on hand on June 30. Pearce had $1,023,577.

In the 1st District race, Heinrich raised $376,372 to Barela’s $244,197. Heinrich had lots more cash on hand – $ 1,301,624 to Barela’s $536,828 – on June 30. But that’s an improvement for Barela.

In the 3rd District race, Luján raised $104,392 to Mullins’ $47,126. Luján had $416,139 in the bank to Mullins’ $35,635 on June 30.
