Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez’s campaign spokesman was arrested for DWI early Sunday morning, and he was fired later in the day.
Raj Shah was arrested shortly after midnight near the intersection of San Mateo and Osuna in Albuquerque, online court records indicate. Shah, 25, was charged with aggravated DWI and careless driving.
As of this morning, he remains in jail on a $5,000 surety bond, online booking records indicate.
“Raj Shah was arrested for DWI early this morning and was immediately terminated,” Ryan Cangiolosi, Martinez campaign manager, said in a Sunday statement.
Shah moved to New Mexico from Connecticut to work for the Martinez campaign earlier this month. He has worked in the past for former U.S. Senate candidate Rob Simmons and the Republican National Committee.
