In Doña Ana County, the District 1 county commission GOP primary race between John Zimmerman and Thomas Austin remains too close to call.
Zimmerman has 797 votes to Austin’s 783 – a 14-vote difference. There are 43 or 44 Republican provisional ballots to be considered that could impact the race, County Clerk Lynn Ellins said.
It’s unlikely that all those provisionals will be deemed valid during the canvass that will begin Friday morning, so it’s unlikely that Austin will win. But it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
The canvass will be completed over the weekend, and the county commission will certify election results on Tuesday.
