A poll commissioned by the campaign of U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., shows him having a 17-point lead over his Republican challenger, Jon Barela.
The poll has Heinrich up 55-38 percent with 7 percent undecided, according to the polling memo. The poll was conducted April 28 to May 2 and surveyed 500 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
The poll, which was conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, asked this question:
“If the election for U.S. Congress were held today and the candidates were Democrat Martin Heinrich and Republican Jon Barela, for whom would you vote, Democrat Martin Heinrich or Republican Jon Barela?”
Notably, the poll did not include Green Party candidate Alan Woodruff.
Also noteworthy: Heinrich led among Anglos 48-44 percent and among Hispanics 68-24 percent, the polling memo states.
“Heading into a general election campaign against Republican Jon Barela, Martin Heinrich is in a strong position for victory,” the memo states. “Heinrich’s support is especially broad; he leads Barela among both men and women, younger and older voters, and in neighborhoods across the district.”
